Welcome and thank you for reading with me.
My name is Elea and in this corner of Substack you will find a place where readers gather, chat, listen, and dream about the stories and people that change our lives. With the occasional photo of my adorable dogs Katie and Samson, one of whom inspired the name.
You should subscribe and read here if you enjoy an overall obsession with books that makes you either irritating at dinner parties or the best seat mate on the plane.
You can expect endless quotes, occasional bad grammar, and the utter delight of an avid reader. So glad you are here.
Welcome to Huskybleu:
a place for the readers and not just the ones who have the prettiest shelves with the first edition hardbacks and the Montblanc pens perched on the corner of their custom-made desks. Everyone is welcome here, but if I’m being honest, this is for the other readers. The readers with haphazardly scattered stacks of books on every flat surface in their house. The readers who have torn books, slightly wrinkled books, dirty books, and books with five different types of handwriting in them. The readers who dog ear that used copy of Pride and Prejudice that has the questionable looking stain on page 24 that smells faintly of chili. The readers who have cracked the spine so badly that the books will never close properly again. The lonely readers, sitting amongst the collection of donated books at the senior citizens home where they live, wondering if family only exists in the stories they read. The readers who are struggling through college wondering if there is a point to reading books anymore, because why bother? The readers who are rocking a new baby in one arm and spooning cheerios into an open mouth with the other hand with an audio book running in the background. The readers who are in physical therapy re-learning how to walk after that 3rd tour cost them their leg and listening to The Hobbit on repeat is the only thing getting them through. The readers who have tattoos of their favorite quotes scattered on their body because they were so touched by the author’s words, they wanted to carry them for the rest of their life.
Finally, this place is for the readers who love to read wildly and with abandon and passion. Who don’t give a shit about what it means to be “well read”, because no list of books gets to determine our intelligence or ability to enjoy and understand the story an author is giving us.
This place is for you.
Should you subscribe?
You should subscribe to this newsletter if you would like to receive all the thoughts about new/old/popular/classic stories and my attempts and successes at reading and understanding them.
You should also subscribe if you like reading challenges that will help you and I get through our endless TBRs.
Also, if you would like to be a part of my discoveries of what it means to be an average writer figuring out how to be honest on the internet, and the creation of a spot that is going to be a gathering place for years to come.
And the author is…?

A lady in her early 30s who is passionate about books, antiques, architecture, flowers, attempting to answer the question “so what do you like to do for fun”, photography, movies, remixes of my favorite songs, collecting hobbies, going to the post office, vintage letters, and farms with giant red barns and houses built before 1940. I am currently residing in a little town called Sitka, Alaska, and yes, it is an island with a lot of grizzly bears on it. I have two dogs who I spend a lot of time with and one of whom inspired the name of this newsletter. You will see Samson’s photo featured heavily throughout.
I started this spot on the internet with the goal of becoming a better writer, channeling my passion to talk about books, and to challenge the modern ideal of what it means to be well read, while also believing that I can create a place to support myself creatively and financially. In bringing this long introduction to a close I want to say: your subscription and support mean the world to me, and I do not take your time and attention lightly. There are approx. 500 million other cool/neat/fun/ beautiful places to be reading on the internet and I am thankful you have chosen to spend time here with me. You won’t regret it, this is a good place to be. So without further ado, let’s start reading.
Love ya’
-Elea
